It is on the agenda for every company these days - how to support the initiatives to make the world a healthier place to live, and here at CoolCava Racing we are no different. OK, so we have a business that supplies parts to fast cars with big engines who are not necessarily the most environmentally friendly forms of transportation - although Porsche have made great progress in this area over the last couple of years.
Don't worry, we are not going to stop stocking parts for the older models or convince you that you should remove those nice PMO's and install a big catalytic-converter on your race tuned 3.6, but we are going to give you some good pointers on how you can maybe do some small things to help the environment when you are out enjoying that petrol thirsty machine...
So here is the CoolCava Racing 10 steps to greener motoring
1.- Plan your journey: A well-planned journey will allow you to get to your destination in the quickest and easiest way, saving on unnecessary fuel emissions.
2.- Check your tyre pressure: A well-inflated tyre decreases the rolling resistance and thereby increases efficiency.
3.- Reduce the load (not a big issue for the owner of a Porsche on a diet!): Extra weight increases the consumption of fuel as does increased air resistance.
4.- Don't warm up your engine before driving: Modern cars no longer need to be warmed up before starting off, only in extremely cold conditions. And believe it or not, warming up the engine is not good for the older 911 engines either. Better to warm up the engine by driving it and keeping the revs down.
5.- Turn off the air-conditioning (I don't even have a fan in my 911!): Avoid setting AC too low, as AC uses a lot of power from the car.
6.- Accelerate gently: Gentle driving uses less fuel, is safer and will allow you and your passengers to reach your destination in more comfort. Additionally, gentle acceleration gives better traction and control of the car, making for better track driving - gentle is faster!
7.- Use engine braking: Using the natural braking power of engines saves fuel.
8.- Don't idle your engine it still uses fuel: When you are not using the engine of the car it is still using fuel.
9.- Stop the oil leaking out: We all know that the older 911 engines are renowned for dripping oil. Do the environment and your car a favour - get it fixed. They did not come like that from the factory, so why accept it in your pride and joy now?
10.- Consider riding a bike once a week: Not only will you save money (now that the petrol cost is getting so high), you will also get some exercise!
11.- Oops, did we say 10 steps: Enjoy driving your car when you get a chance to do so, knowing that you have taken 10 good steps to reduce your detrimental affect on our environment!
