The summer is here and the sun is shining hot, so I could ask "what are you doing sitting here reading this when you could be out driving your beloved Porsche in the wonderful summer weather?" But I know you discovered that there was new news from your good friends at CoolCava Racing, and eager to see what news we have to bring, you could not resist having a quick read - and for this I thank you. I will also like to thank those of you that came out to see us at the Practical Performance Magazine Party in the Park, it was really nice to meet you all and talk Porsche - but more about that later...
So, what interesting news have we to share with you from the bunkers of CoolCava Racing this time? I can hear you ask with excitement... Well, let me start with what I feel is the most existing thing that has happened since the last newsletter we sent out - an exciting new collaboration with 9Magazine in the US.
CoolCava Racing featured in 9Magazine
When we started to promote the C12 calipers earlier this year, Brian the editor at 9Magazine got really excited and kindly requested that we write a "how to" article for his magazine describing in detail how the C12 calipers are installed and if it was a DIY project. This we gladly did, and the end results have been a million times more rewarding than we ever could have predicted.
Brian was so delighted with the work we did on the article (which has now been split over two issues), that we have agreed to do additional articles for 9Magazine related to our cars and the products we manufacture and supply. We have just completed an article describing the installation of the new C12 Solid Mounts as replacement 915 transmission mounts. With a bit of luck, the powers at 9Magazine will find this article just as good and we will see it published in the not so distant future.
An additional benefit that we have gained from this work is the agreement from Brian that we can supply the issues containing the C12 caliper article for free to our registered customers - that's right, as a registered customer at CoolCava Racing you are entitled to a free PDF downloadable version of issue 38 (current issue) and 39 (soon to be published) of 9magazine. All you have to do is ask via email and we will do the rest for you. We need to keep a track of the customers who do download the issues and as such it is managed as a free order via the web shop.

To help promote 9magazine outside of the US, we will be using the C12 caliper and any future installation articles we write as the official installation guides for the products. In fairness to Brian and his team, we will not have the complete 9Magazine issue available as a download for the installation instructions, but rather just the main article itself. But all past and future issues of this great Porsche publication can always be purchased direct from their site.
The CoolCava Racing 2009 Advertising Campaign
Every company needs to keep its visibility up, and CoolCava Racing is no different. Last year we did a series of adverts in 911 & Porsche World which were focused on some of the products we supply such as the M&K mufflers, Elephant Racing Parts and the Hargett Pro Shifter among others. This year we have decided to do a more focused campaign which contains a number of full and half page adverts focusing on the core image and brand that CoolCava Racing maintains.
So armed with a camera crew manned by Marcus and Pierre and an extremely attractive blond lady by the name of Melinda, we set off during a warm Swedish afternoon to take some pictures. After a lot of discussions and research, we decided to take pictures at two contrasting locations. The first shoot was outside of a large manor house in Sollentuna, Sweden, just north of Stockholm. The second was at an underground carpark in Kista, Sweden.
Whilst both locations gave us a large selection of good quality pictures, we decided in the end that the pictures taken at the manor house were more appropriate for our campaign and this kicked off the selection process to find two pictures that would provide the basis for our 2009 advertising campaign.
I have to admit here though, that we were so satisfied with the overall results of the pictures that there are some rumours of a 2010 CoolCava Racing calendar floating round the office at the moment featuring the wonderful Melinda - so stay tuned for more rumour control on this one if you are interested...
The first location for these adverts will be in 9Magazine (starting with issue 39 on page 17), but we are considering other publications as well as posters during the remainder of the year.
As our valued customers, we would really appreciate your view and feedback on the pictures and adverts, and maybe some indications as to if it would be of any interest if we were to produce a 2010 calendar with these pictures or not?
CCR + C12 = CCR + C12
In our 2009 Q1 newsletter that we sent out at the beginning of April, we wrote about the launch of a new brand CC12R which was a joint venture brand between us and Carbon12, under the heading CCR + C12 = CC12R. Well, we have continued to work on this great partnership, and as the work continued, we realised that the end results would become confusing to our customers with so many brands. Therefore after a lot of discussions and thinking, we have jointly decided to drop the CC12R brand. This does not mean that the partnership will change in any way, but rather that we do not want to have yet another brand in the mix.
The bottom line is that Carbon12 will manufacture all Porsche Performance Parts that are developed in partnership with us here at CoolCava Racing, and these parts will be branded with the C12 logo and sold exclusively through us. So why the change of heart? Well, we decided that after the great success we had promoting the C12 calipers, we did not want to change the brand alignment we had created with C12, so all future parts will be supplied with joint branding and logo, but will be promoted under the C12 range.
Introducing the C12 Solid Mounts
So with the C12 product range explained, it leaves a good slot for me to finally introduce the C12 Solid mounts as officially available for sale.

These mounts have spent a long time in testing and we are happy to say that after some small changes they are spot on, but they are not to everyone's taste...
For any general road production car the manufacturers face a compromise between performance and comfort, aiming to achieve a happy medium that will satisfy most customers. For the Porsche 911 SC and 3.2 Carrera this was no exception, and as such to ensure reliability, comfort and acceptable performance (although rather impressive at the time) Porsche isolated all major components with rubber based bushings and mounts. For the majority of owners this is a perfect balance, but there remains a percentage of owners who are happy and willing to sacrifice comfort and some reliability by chasing the last drop of performance improvements that can be pushed out of their cars - and here we find the owner seeking the benefits of the solid transmission and engine mounts!
Rubber and related products are by their very nature flexible and forgiving. This is great when you are trying to isolate vibrations and mechanical sounds, such as in a car. I promise you, a high performance track or racing car is not the most appropriate environment for a relaxing long drive with your partner, and as such if this is your desired use for your 911 then I would not recommend solid mounts. However, the inherent flexibility of rubber does have the drawback that it will, under extreme pressure, put the alignment between the shifter, transmission and engine out sufficient to affect the shifting speed and performance. Solid mounts will resolve this, but it will also transmit all the vibrations and mechanical sounds, that previously were isolated, straight into the car structure which will act as a nice amplifier for the sounds!
So if you are a person looking to get better performance and speed from your car at all costs, then these mounts are for you...
The Party
On Saturday 23rd of May, we attended the Practical Performance Magazine Party in the Park, at Mallory Park. And what a great party it was! I am not completely sure what can be listed as the highlight of the day, but one of my top favourites must have been the Power Tool Drag Racing.
There was also a very nice original rally prepared 911 there attending the track sessions that had been arranged along with the show, and we took the opportunity to snap a couple of nice pictures whilst she was parked up between track sessions.
I would like to say a big thank you to those of you who made the trip to see us and spend some time with us. Whilst the agenda of the day was maybe not very Porsche focused, the day was a great success, and we hope that those of you that attended feel the same way.
911 & Porsche World interest in our 935 Spring Plates
We recently announced the release of our 935 style rear spring plates that were developed in partnership with Experimental Prototyping, a small precision engineering company in Sweden.

This announcement was published predominantly via popular Porsche publications such as 911 & Porsche World (see new products in issue 183 on page 14). This announcement, whilst relatively small, was enough to create some frenzy within the 911 & Porsche World office. Shortly after the issue was published we were contacted by the magazine and asked if we would be willing to supply them a set to be installed onto one of their magazine cars (the same one that has our supplied M&K muffler to be precise). After some thought and discussions with Mattias who owns Experimental Prototyping, we decided it would be worth the publicity and sent them a nice shiny set of 935 spring plates.
We are still not 100% sure what issue they will feature our spring plates in, but be assured that we will let you know as soon as the story and review is out...
Porsche Artwork
As we have said in the past, CoolCava Racing is a relatively small family run business with a passion for the Porsche brand. As a small company, at times we find creative ways to get things done. One example of this is when we had to put together the 2008 advertising campaign. Not having the skills or resources we required to get a good result, we found ourself looking for assistance outside of the company. This is when we found and started to build a wonderful friendship with Dave Matthews.
Dave has now become our exclusive graphical resource, and we have no idea what we would do without him. Most of the advertising graphics that you have and will see from CoolCava Racing have been subjected to the Dave magic.
But Dave's skills and artwork does not stop at just manipulating CoolCava Racing advertising pictures, he has a large personal collection of pictures that he has and continues to produce. As a small way to thank him for all his hard work, we have set up a new album dedicated to Dave's work and we hope you will enjoy his talents as much as we do.
Forum News
The CoolCava Racing forum is growing, and we are keen to extend the benefits you and we get from it. To date the forum has been hosted by a third-party company, and we have decided that it is time to bring the forum in.house and extend the base functions with features that are more car related. So keep your eyes pealed on our forum for new and exiting features.
During the migration, you might experience some problems, but I promise you that these will be short lived and worth it in the end...
