Building a new brand and better parts.
Date: Sunday 29 March, 2009

So, we have reach the end of the first quarter of 2009, and what an exiting 3 months it has been here at CoolCava Racing. We have created a new brand, signed some exiting new partnerships, and registered for our first show of the year.

But I would like to start with what is the single most important thing to have happened since the last newsletter, our new adventure into design and production of Porsche performance parts with Carbon12 and Steve Heath Engineering.

CCR + C12 = CC12R
During the end of last year we realised that the rapidly dropping economy was going to adversely affect our business and we needed to look at new opportunities to survive. We have for some time been writing down ideas for new products, and we realised that now is the time to seek assistance to make these ideas a reality.

Carbon12 is a specialised precision engineering company based in the south of England in the rural and calming countryside of Devon. Chris Rudling who is the driving force behind Carbon12 has a lengthy background in design and production of high performance parts and components for the motor racing industry, and has a passion for the early Porsche 911 - a perfect match for a great partnership.

Together with Carbon12, we have started to prototype a number of performance parts that will soon be ready, and will be sold under our new joint brand CC12R. Close to release are our new solid and semi-solid engine and transmission mounts for the Porsche 911SC and 3.2 Carrera. Both the solid and semi-solid mounts are machined from high grade aluminium and then hard anodised.

Another product we are bringing to the market are the C12 Porsche 911 brake upgrade components from Carbon 12. Using existing and well proven brake technology from F1 and rally championships, these aluminium calipers offer a direct bolt-on high-performing upgrade for any Porsche 911 from 1969 to 1989, utilising either 20mm or 24mm discs and “S” front struts (3.5” caliper spacing). If you require an even bigger front set-up, then an upgrade to a 300x28mm two piece aluminium bell and rotor set-up is available, giving an increased braking surface for racing and fast track driving.

Unlike a lot of other Porsche brake upgrades available, the C12 calipers are a direct bolt-on option, and these 6 pot front caliper weigh 600g less than the Porsche 930 Turbo caliper commonly used for upgrades. This gives you better brake performance at a reduced weight, and the option to retain your original 15" rims.

From Porsche to TVR
Another exciting partnership that we have made is with Steve Heath Engineering. A company with extensive experience in producing suspension components and performance parts for the TVR brand, SHENG is bringing a blend of unique thinking and experience to the CoolCava Racing team, which will be put to good use in the design and production of replacement and upgrade suspension parts.

We have already designed and developed some much required additions to the Hargett Shifter with SHENG, such as the handbrake extension which has already generated a lot of interest with the Hargett Shifter owners, both in Europe and the USA.

Help us and get rewarded
We want to extend our product range as much as possible, and make sure that we manufacture quality parts. We do not see this as an excuse to increase the price on our parts, but rather seek to have parts of the highest quality, that are manufactured in Europe at a realistic price.

But we need your input as to what would be good product, and to help us test the new prototypes. I know, "what's in it for me?", you ask...

Designing, producing and marketing new parts is not cheap, but cleaning up the problems a bad product can create can cost a lot more. So we want to make sure that the parts we release for sale have been properly tested and reviewed by you - our customers and friends. Once we have a product that has been initially tested by us and is ready, we will seek to have a small number tested in general use - by you. We will supply you with the final prototype and all related installation hardware. You install the parts and test them for us, giving as much feedback as possible. At the end of the test period, if you like the parts, then we will let you keep them - for most products we will let you have them for free, but on some larger items there may be a small charge. .

All we ask is that you test the product, give as much feedback as possible, and if you like the part - share your experience and thoughts with your fellow Porsche friends.

As an example, one of our customers - Peter - has just taken receipt of our solid mounts to test on his 3.2 Carrera. he was so excited by the design, that he requested the ability to test the mounts on his engine and transmission. We have asked him to take pictures and document his review in the CoolCava Racing forum. I for one, look forward to reading his comments...

Party in the Park
It is time to get out there and meet up with some of our customers and friends. Our friends at SHENG have a long standing relationship with the boys and girls at Practical Performance Car Magazine, and have invited us to share their stand at the PPC in the Park event this year, which will be on Saturday 23rd may at Mallory Park. This we thought was a great idea, and we are now booked and ready for a fun day at Mallory Park.

Forum News
The CoolCava Racing forum is growing, and has been cleaned up a bit. A number of you commented on the extremely large number of sections and seemingly redundant parts, so we did some pruning, and removed a number of sections. Don't worry - the posts have not been deleted, we moved them into the most appropriate project or technical discussion sections.

Our very own Chris from Carbon12 has also started to document his back-date project under the "Our Projects" section. Whilst it is still early days, we hope to see some interesting work documented here and look forward to the development of this project - which started with the purchase of a rolling shell from e-bay!
